description Sunol Regional Wilderness is expected to remain open for day use during the San Francisco Public Utilities Commision project to improve its facilities at Calaveras Reservoir . However, there is no overnight camping at the Sunol Family Campsites or Group Campsites until further notice. The Sunol Backpack Camping Area remains open; advance reservation (5 business days/ phone only) and Ohlone Wilderness Permit is required for each person age 12 years or older. Please visit the Sunol Park Page or call the EBRPD Reservations Department at 1-888-EBPARKS (1-888-327-2757) option 2 for more information. Alameda Grove picnic area is available for reservation Saturday and Sunday only; Leyden Flats picnic area is closed to reservations until further notice.
drivingDirection From Fremont: Head north on I-680 and exit at Calaveras Road. Turn right on Calaveras and proceed to Geary Road, which leads directly into the park. From Oakland/Berkeley: Head east on I-580 to the I-680 junction in Pleasanton. Head south on I-680 and exit at Calaveras Road/Highway 84 just south of the town of Pleasanton. Turn left onto Calaveras Road and proceed to Geary Road, which leads directly into the park. From Walnut Creek/Danville: Head south on I-680 and exit at Calaveras Road/Highway 84, just south of the town of Pleasanton. Turn left onto Calaveras Road and proceed to Geary Road, which leads directly into the park.
